Parent of TP pays nursery school directly for TP's children (her grandchildren). Can this be considered a gift to TP and allowed as child care expense on TP's tax return? Well below gift tax return threshold, so no issue there. Thank you.

More info...
Grandma's name appears on statement from the nursery school, along with kids' names as those being provided for. Pays by check. Grandma does NOT claim the TP or grandkids, TP has some dependent care benefits from work, but nursery school charges well exceed the amount. One household only, TP+spouse+kids. I've explained to them that it'd be best for grandma to give $$ to TP and let TP pay, too late for that for 2017. Thanks. -
I did same thing for youngest grandchild (20 years ago). I don't remember if I gave money to my daughter or if I paid nursery school. but she claimed on her tax return (form 2441) the only condition I asked for refund of credit but she never repaid me, so it was money I gifted.Comment
