High School Educational Conferences and Competitions Expeneses

I have a client that spent about $12,000 for her High School-aged son to represent NM State in competitions which included entrance fees, travel, flight, hotel etc., to compete at several Ivy League Universities. Is there anyway to deduct those expenses?

I don't think so. Personal Expenses.

In my county kids do car washes, raffles, go fund me etc. to raise money.
