    DFAS and 1099R

    Does anybody remember if DFAS issued some 2015 1099'R with the year printed as 2016 and told to use them for 2015 as they would not be corrected? Seems to be an issue in what year IRS is seeing these 1099 R's. Thanks to anyone who can help

      I have one client, received a 2015 tax year 1099-R from DFAS with "2015" showing on the form. It is a downloaded PDF copy, not printed on paper. So the problem, if it is as you remember it, was not universal. Not sure if that helps.

          Distribution Code P

          See if the distribution code is "P". This screwed-up code creates exactly the crossing of years you describe.
