    Camping.....

    expenses as a tax deduction?

Client in for pick up this evening said they had heard that camping expenses (site rental, etc.) were deductible. The only thing I know of camping related would be mortgage interest on a camper/motorhome as second/vacation home, and possibly general sales tax deduction. Thoughts?

    About ... THAT?

Okay. My thought when I read your post was that it was posted here to make everyone laugh. Well, it worked for me.

If that is their "lodging" while temporarily traveling away from their tax home for a business trip, yes, it would be deductible.

If it for recreation, can I deduct my trip to Disneyland too? :-)

Site rental is deductible if this is the overnight stay for a temporary, out-of-town job.

I had a client come in a few years ago and she always has her annual camp site listed, of course I never claim it. But, sounds as if the other preparer before me counted it. Sorta wonder if they know something I don't!!

I had the same thoughts as you all did. Probably heard it from their cousin's barbers ex-girlfriends maid.

I didn't look at the date of your post...perhaps the client thought it was April 1 and he is a fool.

I would count it the same as a motel bill, if work related then deductable.

I know some LPGA caddies who camp when they are out on tour, and I could see it for some construction jobs in remote areas.

On the other hand, Therapuetic camping benefits probably would not count toward medical but if you can document and have a script Still no.

Curious as to why no when you say "On the other hand, Therapuetic camping benefits probably would not count toward medical but if you can document and have a script Still no.

If it can be "documented" and designed for and meets the medical needs/requirements and has a "script" by a medical professional for such, would it be deductible?
