Yes, the automatic extention filing for a 1065 is 6 months to Oct 15. After that, it's a $ 50. per partner, per month penalty.

New Extension Form

New extension form this year for partnerships, form 7004 filed by 4/15/06 extends due date to 10/16/06, how nice it is, no more worries about filing the 2nd extension form by 7/15/06.

Penalty $50 per month times number of partners, up to 5 months, unless there is reasonable cause.
