    Forein Country on Form 1116

If the 1099-Div does not list the foreign country which the tax was paid in, what do you put in box A of line g Part 1, for Name of Country or Foreign Possession?

In my software, the code is OC for Other Country(ies). Do you have a drop-down menu or look-up list to find what works in your software? You could call your tech support. Or, post your software for specific directions.

      Source of foreign income

The Form 1099-DIV should provide something. . . Otherwise, look for an explanatory set of information from the fund and/or the brokerage statement.

To answer your question: Most tax software will allow "various" as a source, or "RIC" as another option if the facts fit. Look for a pull-down menu where you enter the 1099 info.

Before you bother with F-1116 see if your client even needs to file one at all. There is a $300/$600 FTC filing exemption.
