    HSA and other coverage

Client has HSA qualified insurance policy. His non-custodial daughter is covered by his policy as well as being covered by her custodial Mother's policy which IS NOT an HSA qualified plan....Does this disqualify his HSA? Spouse can have other insurance coverage, and this does not disqualify HSA as long as HSA owner is not covered by spouse's plan--would this be true for the child's coverage, as well?

In looking over Pub. 969 and TB p.13-30, the HSA is dependent on the father. If he has family coverage, then he can contribute to his HSA up to the family limit. Nothing mentions the insurance coverage a dependent may have. He can use his HSA to pay for his daughter's medical bills, even if she wasn't on his insurance.

He still qualifies for the HSA. Interestingly, he should qualify for the "family" contribution, even though the daughter has other coverage.
