    audit help!

    I have never dealt with a revenue audit before this one, so my experience is NONE. I have a client who's 2013 return was being audited for the state of NC. My client took ALL of her papers, receipts etc (several boxes) to the auditor earlier this year. He signed off on the audit and said as far as he was concerned it was closed, but that his supervisor would have to look over his work. Now yesterday the client got a letter from them to sign a waiver to extend the statute of limitations until June. I really don't want to deal with them Jan-April. But my first thoughts is to not sign the letter (it does not say she has to or has to respond by a certain time).

    I was wondering if anyone with experience on this has opinions or advice?

      signing the waiver is not a requirement. TP can refuse. Check the regs for how much time the State has to respond to the TP. If that has been exceeded I would argue that the file should be closed.
      Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.
