    Political Office Expenses

A client ran for a town Council position. They have expenses relating to the election.
Are these expenses write off and is there a special form to be filed.

My guess is second job expenses and Sch A (miscellaneous Expense) write off
    Thanks

I believe 100% of any and all political contributions, whether to others or your own are Non Deductible anywhere.

        From Pub 529:

        Campaign Expenses

You can't deduct campaign expenses of a candidate for any office, even if the candidate is running for reelection to the office. These include qualification and registration fees for primary elections.

Correct for federal tax returns. Some states allow a deduction/credit for candidates for state office.
