First Time Homebuyer Credit not taken 5 years ago

Client divorced and bought own home 5 years ago. Trouble is the credit for new home ownership was not taken into consideration on tax returns. I think it's too late now. What do others think? Thanks for any/all replies.

You can file for a refund for three years after the due date/filing date or two years after the tax was paid, whichever is later. Sounds like your client has passed those dates, unless he paid very late.

If he owned a home when he was married he doesn't qualify for the credit.
Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.

What year was this house purchased?

Are you saying that your client got a divorce and then purchased a home? Did your client live in a home prior to that, that either spouse owned?

Your probably to late anyway to "claim" a refund...

What was the date this occurred? This credit expired more than 5 years from today.... 5/11/16... in fact it expired more than 6 years ago.
