Are hours worked in New York used in preparing a non-resident NY state tax return?

I have a Texas resident who goes to New York 4 days a week to work (in the city of Poughkeepsie, NY city).

The TP furnished me with a list of hours worked in New York & said I would need those to prepare the New York non-resident state tax return.

After working up the NY state tax return, I could not see where the hours worked in New York would be used.

Can the hours worked in New York be used on the state tax return?
If so how?

Sorry, I only prepare about 1 New York tax return per year.

Look for an allocation schedule. If he worked outside NY, visiting clients, training, (NOT working from home; NY considers working from home to be working in NY, no matter where home is located) he can allocate some of his NYS income out of NYS which can help if his resident state tax rate is lower. It'll ask for weekends, holidays, vacation, sick days, and for days worked out of NY and calculate a ratio that will lower NY taxes. Check with someone who uses your software or your software support to learn details of where to enter.
