    unusual return

I have just finished the most unusual return I think I have ever done in over 30 years of doing taxes. Single mom who works extremely hard as an RN to pay for her children's college so they won't have student loans hanging over their heads. She made too much money to get education credit or claim her student loan interest on her loans. That probably isn't that unusual but I hadn't had that happen (at least I don't think I have). But here is the kicker..........Her tax liability and her taxes withheld were exactly the same. EXACTLY THE SAME!!!!!! She gets nothing back and doesn't owe anything. That is a huge difference from the around $4000 she got back last year.
Lost Child tax credit...kids grow up
Higher income so couldn't claim education credit or student loan interest deduction.

Really disappointing for her and jaw dropping for me.

Don't think I've had that one

I had one the other day where there were eight entries on 2015 Form 1040 page 1, just like in 2014. All the entries were different in 2015 compared to 2014. Adjusted Gross Income was $71,150 for both years. Of course I checked it three times because it freaked me out just a little.

My most "fun" unlikely tax happening was three years ago when my client and I were joking: "What are the odds of a refund being $1,111?!" Then she handed me her payment check and it was check # 1111. We looked at each other and she said, "Where do they sell lottery tickets?" I said, "Follow me." We laugh about that every year.
If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I think I have had that happen 3 times in 40 years. I know it was at least twice.
