    Where would I go to get the EA test? I have been a preparer for 8 years now. Is it a
    manatory thing now?

      beginning with 2006 the IRS has outsourced the exam to Thomson/Prometric. The first testing window begins in October. Search EA exam at IRS.gov and it will link you to the registration page for taking the test.

      No, testing is not yet required.

        Last I heard SB 832 is still tied up in committee and not legislation yet. This is the Federal legislation that would probably require to some extent some form of registration for Federal tax preparers. Maybe someone else can update us on this bill's progress.
