    Ssa-1099

Son received deceased dad's social security under the son's SSN. Do I add the amt. that he got to his (the son's) social security and report it that way?

    Thanks your help in advance.

Yes. Son received it. It's his income.
If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

I have one client with this and he also receives SS under his own account. Therefore he gets 2 SSA 1099 forms with different SS numbers on each. First time I saw it I was very confused but after talking with the man and he explained it, I just add the 2 totals together and report the total as one line item amount

is the son under 18? How does he get two SSBs? and I would not report the 1099 on his return until I thoroughly understood why it is not being issued under his SSN. I would want to see the document from SSA telling him they would be issuing the funds to him but with his Dad's SSN on the 1099.
Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.

Dad died. Son received income from SSA. Dad was dead. Dad did not receive the benefits as he was dead. 1099-SSA was issued in son's SSN, since son received the money. There is no document anywhere saying Dad's SSN is on the 1099-SSA. It was not. Dad was dead.

Edit: OK, now I think you were replying to Burke, not Supermom. If so, my answer is of no benefit and please disregard. This is a good time to quote, when you have two questions in a thread. My apologies.

Well said if those are the facts. If those still doubtful ask son the facts and reference Social Security how those facts are handled. Otherwise as RitaB says what the facts are and the issue is dead.

This is a different poster and different issue. I don't understand why he is receiving two SSA-1099's with different SSN's on them either. Is this a one-time thing because the other recipient is deceased?

Yeah, you got me. It sounds like an ongoing thing. Hmmmm. I don't understand that either.
