Title pretty much sums it-what cases are there where an individual would have minimum essential health insurance coverage but not receive a form 1095 of some kind in 2015?

I'd definitely wait for 1095-A, though at this point my state's exchange has made them available online so there's no excuse for someone to not have it or not be able to get it.
For 1095-B and 1095-C I'm not waiting. Unless there's some doubt as to insurance coverage, but most of my clients have insurance through their employer and have for years, or don't have insurance at all.

Not preparing any returns if 1095A is not presented - I have about 5-6 clients in Calif, and Covered Calif at least for year 2014 was a mess - you could not even get through the website
One Calif Client already has the 1095A and has provided - so that is good!!!
Fortunatley I believe that is it, all other clients are covered by Employers, and/or Medicare (we know the client has Medicare if they receive their SSA statement or they provide us with a bill from Medicare) -
Oh then I already know I have maybe 2 clients that did not sign up through ACA or their employers and will have the penalties.
Good Luck to all that have more clients on the "Exchange" and require the form 1095A - hopefully the statements will be arriving, I am not waiting for the 1095B or C. Another thought for backup would be the taxpayers pay stub as might show the medical insurance deduction.

So far I know that SOME Medicare recipients get a 1095-B. My very first return was a couple who are getting 3 different 1095's. He retired in late 2014 with a buyout from his company. He is 63 and his wife turned 65 in June. He had negotiated COBRA coverage through June, 2015 as a part of his buyout. At mid-year she became covered by Medicare and he bought his personal coverage through the exchange. So they have already received a 1095-A for him and a 1095-B for her. Each 1095 shows their months of coverage (Jul-Dec) and non-coverage for their respective periods. I assume he will also receive a 1095-C from the employer for the months of Jan-Jun, but of course the employer says "we have until March to send those out".
Apparently, at least those with part-year Medicare coverage will get a 1095-B. Makes sense.Last edited by JohnH; 02-01-2016, 09:26 AM."The only function of economic forecasting is to make astrology look respectful" - John Kenneth Galbraith

We have to wait for A, not B or C.
My own kids, so freebie returns!, had Marketplace January through June and got their 1095-A online. Then son had Marketplace again from October through December -- a three month gap -- and got form online. Wife went on Medicaid, so no 1095. Baby born in October, probably on Medicaid so no 1095. I just emailed them a lot of questions.
It's the ones I can't charge or just can't charge much that have these issues!

Credit Payback
Technically, we don't have to have a 1095-A to file if we know the information. (Fat chance) Among other things, the "hit and miss" tax credit taken all year long has to be recalculated in order to determine an extra credit (or extra tax) on the 1040.
I would not have any confidence in the client being able to supply this information. I'm going to wait on the 1095-As.

Just took a good look at my son/wife/baby's forms and my DIL's email. Son had marketplace all year, per DIL. However, the joint form that lists the two spouses covers only January through June. Son's separate form (after DIL went on Medicaid) covers only October through November. A THREE month gap. Baby on Medicaid so no form for her.
Should I wait for a corrected form? Fat chance! If it were a two month gap, I'd push it through with the exception for short gap. And, yeah, they got pretty hefty APCs as son didn't work much and DIL went on bed rest during pregnancy and had to stop working, so income was really low.
Why is it the freebies?! I want to charge for this mess! I didn't vote for him!

Went to Medicare site, and yes there will be 1095B issued "to all individuals under the age of 65 with Medicare Part A, those who enrolled in Medicare Part A for the first time in (2015) or had Medicare Part A coverage for pat of (2015)"
According to the info, Medicare Part A coverage (including coverage through a Medicare Advantage plan) is minimum esstial coverage.
