    Client Bringing in Form 1095?

I know its early in the tax year, but are the clients bringing in their 1095 form? Is this rule still in effect?

    1095 forms

    1. Yes, our taxpayer clients are bringing in 1095-A or 1095-B forms when they have health insurance. We are asking for the form for all clients who claim to have health insurance for all, or any part, of 2015, for themselves or anyone claimed on the return or anyone in their household.
    2. We do not require a 1095 form for those on medicare who's SSA 1099 reflects the medicare payment.
Friends double; family triple. Don't buy an audit for yourself. If someone has to go to jail make sure it is the client. Remember it is only taxes, nothing important.

IRS delayed issuance of the 1095 until March I believe. The 1095 form is not *required* to file the tax return. If they state they had coverage and you have no reason why to doubt the information then you can proceed without the 1095.

The only one that is required is the 1095-A if they had coverage through the Marketplace or state-sponsored like Covered CA.

Thank you for this, I was thinking the same thing, but glad to have reassurance.

I am requiring it. I don't rely on verbal info because I don't want the headaches they bring.
Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.

I am having my clients sign off on a form that they had insurance if they have the 1095 B or 1095 C or not.

Did you have health insurance coverage for all 12 months of 2015 ❑Yes ❑ No

            FORM 1095 A B C ATTACHED? □ YES □ NO PROVIDER:_________________________________________ __

The same for the spouse and the listed dependents.

At the end of the form, when they are signing that this is correct, there is a statement that they must bring in the 1095 B or 1095 C when it is received if they did not have not received it yet.

And when they bring it is is when you find out they provided incorrect information.

Maybe. But I can't wait until March or later when they do get it. And we are not required to have the 1095 B or C to file. The 1095 A we are required to have it.

This is no different than last year when there were no 1095's except the A.

I don't take new clients. So I know my clients.

I agree with Jiggers, long time clients I know and talk to on a regular basis, I am only looking for the 1095A form to input for the return. 1095 B etc it is what it is, and on my client basis I do not believe itwill impact the client's return so not waiting for 1095 B - C

When will this policing of the Obamacare be over - should not be our oversight!

When a man and woman engage my services and tell me they are married, I do not insist on seeing the marriage license. When a client tells me that this child is theirs, I do not ask to see a birth certificate. For me, the same goes with the 1095B or C this year. I am preparing their return based upon their representations. If I had to wait until I got that 1095 (other than 1095-A) in my hand, I'd have a stable of very upset clients some of which would seek a different preparer next year.

                    YMMV

I maintain worksheets in their handwriting which I use to verify the information came from them if there is ever a question.
