    Charity donors ssn proposal

Much discussion about possible Driver License ID on Federal tax return. Now how about this proposal?

News reports of a administration proposal to have some nonprofit charities report the Social Security numbers of donors giving at least $250 in one year is raising concerns about security, government overreach and another episode of IRS targeting.

I've thought something should be done about that for a long time. Probably the biggest non-matched deduction and a receipt would be very easy to forge. It would be better if instead of a SSN, the people could apply for a "charitable number" that the IRS can link to SSN so SSN's are not floating around more than they already are.
