    2016 PTIN Renewal Season

    The 2016 PTIN renewal season has opened up as of November 1 - it's now $ 50 - not $ 63
Don't forget that while you are in the screen - you're able to check out the CE credits that
have been posted to your account. In addition to just viewing it - I printed out a copy of the
details for each subsection - Ethics, Federal Tax, Update - as supporting documentation
    for license renewal purposes.

PTIN renewal does not require any CE credits at all. By "license renewal", I assume you were talking about EA renewal requirements (every 3 years) in your post? I've tried to determine whether or not OPR/RPO will automatically try to validate CE for EAs against their database, or simply accept the signed EA renewal form, as in all prior years? This is the first year for EA renewals where there might be 3 full years of CE history on file with the IRS.

PTIN renewal done for another year

Renewed online this morning without any significant problems.

The reduced $50 renewal fee was a (somewhat) pleasant surprise.

Think the Uncle meant EA renewal. Why print it out when you can save it as a PDF. A good tax prepare would always check once they receive the CE certiface if it posted to the PTIN website just like you tell clients to balance their accounts then it is easy for EA renewal

          PTIN and EA Renewal

It took 10 minutes each to renew PTIN and EA enrollment

          PTIN approval is available immediately

EA approval takes approximately 90 days

Everybody should pay his income tax with a smile. I tried it, but they wanted cash

Does all CE's need to be completed before EA renewal?

I am yet to complete my CE/CPE's for 2015. Should I complete those first before renewing my EA?

As an EA you should know how to check your requirements to meet your yearly (cycle) requirements. There are many resources to help you.

We know how to check. We want to know if we should wait to renew until our classes are over for 2015. I for one have 2 credits in November and 14 the first week in December. As others have asked, but not been answered, should we wait to renew until our classes are over? Does the renewal process ask if we have already earned our credits or if we expect to earn our credits?

                  List all credits

I would wait in order to include ALL your CPEs. When you renew, you are asked for the number of credits earned in each year. Although you might want to list CPEs that you haven't earned yet, I would wait to make sure they have been posted to your account. You never know if something could happen where you couldn't, for some reason (sick, cancelled seminar, etc), earn the credits you wanted to earn. Hope this answers your question. Of course, it is your decision to do what you want to do.

why pay when received a refund?

I am confused. We have been paying the $63 fee for how many years now? I believe I was refunded that $63 for last years during the summer, or was that refund for something else? So why did they refund us and then now charging us again but only $50? Doesn't make sense.

                        This is what it says

"If you want approval for Active Enrolled Agent status, enter the number of CPE and Ethics hours you earned in each year of the current enrollment cycle".

PTIN fees and timing of registration

I'm unaware of any refunds of PTIN registration fees per se.

What I do seem to recall was a separate, one-time refund of the testing fee that had been placed upon RTRP folks. I think the fee/refund was in the amount of $116 and the refund occurred this past spring.

The two fees are not directly related.

As for "waiting" to renew your PTIN itself, I have routinely renewed in early November even though the bulk of my required tax courses are not taken until December. That does not create a problem. Things are even better now that (most) schools automatically send the required CEU information to the IRS upon successful completion of the school(s). As part of my registration for the upcoming (December) courses, I was required to list my PTIN on the application form.

As you may know the credits required in a year must be 2 in ETHICS. VERY IMPORTANT. Ethics required each year
