    SSI for child

Is SSI sent to a parent on behalf of his son taxable? Thanks for your help in advance.

Is this Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI)? It sounds like Social Security Disability, but you called it SSI, so it is impossible to tell. SSI is nontaxable if you are 100% certain you are describing it correctly.

      Son

Think the SSI would be in the name and social security number of the child. Probably the parent is acting as the Rep Payee for the son.

Additional info is on Social Securiy web-site.

If the child has other income that requires him/her to file a return, it would be included on the child's return. If not it is not taxable.
Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.

With all due respect (I have followed your posts forever), I have a different perspective. I believe you are discussing Social Security Disability Payments, but this topic is SSI.

            From Publication 907:
Supplemental security income (SSI) payments. Social security benefits do not include SSI payments, which are not taxable. Do not include these payments in your income.

              SSI for child

Thanks Doug, you are correct. SSI is Supplimental Security Income. This child who is 5 years old has severe mental problems because of his mother using drugs while pregnant. Parents get it because they are low income.
