A trust's only annual income is $18 in taxable interest.

Is the trust required to file a 1041, or is the trust not required to file a 1041 because the trust exemption reduces taxable income to zero?

Gross income must be over $600 for a return to be required. However, if this is a final return where losses and expenses flow through to the bene's, you may wish to do it anyway so that can happen.
