    Energy Credit & Manufacturers Certification

Do you require Manufacturers Certification? I always have, but I am being questioned on whether it is necessary for the taxpayer to have in his mitts.

Well, the mfg cert doesn't have to be filed with the return. I would advise the client to get it for his records, though, and I would prefer to have a copy for his file, too. Many (most? ... all?) such certs can be found and printed online, right from the company's web site.

Unless we are an expert in that area, how else would we know whether it qualifies or not.

My day job is at an HVAC dealer. We give manufacturers certificates for all HVAC systems that qualify at the time of installation.

But we get lots of calls for certificates because "we just found out we get a credit for the new unit we installed."
Uh, sorry but your unit does not qualify.
