    housing a foreign student.

Are expenses for housing a foreign student only deductible on Schedule A as a charitable donation?
Taxpayer received a 1099 and would like to take some expenses against it?

I found this on another board and have not researched the issue myself:

The income should be reported on 1040 Line 21.

A taxpayer who receives a stipend for hosting the foreign student does not qualify for the charitable deduction.

He can deduct substantiated out-of-pocket expenses as a misc itemized deduction subject to 2%.

See Pub. 526, page 4. I believe the only deduction is $50 per month as a charitable contribution.
