    IRS email

Today, a client calls to tell me he rec'd an email from IRS saying that someone was trying to steal his refund. He needed to respond within two days! He tried to print it out, but it wouldn't print. He has deleted, and I told him that irs does not contact by email. His email wasn't on his return. Anybody else have clients that have rec'd emails?

No, I haven't, but there certainly are warnings from the IRS that they NEVER contact taxpayers by e-mail.

      Answer

      Mantra for taxpayers:

      The IRS never sends emails.
      IGNORE them.
      DELETE them.

      (Repeat as often as needed)

Feel free to pass this information on to your client.

          Scam

There was a scam of this nature published in the Wall Street Journal about 2-3 weeks ago.
