    New Rules For Ea Exam

The announcement IR 2--6-92 addresses the issue of "transition carryover restrictions" . In order to carryover scores for the IRS format to the new Thomson Prometric format, candidates must meet prior minimum retention rules for carryover; specifically the candidates must have been notified by the IRS that they could carryover scores for the parts passed.

This carryover must be done by 12/31/07. Individuals who passed 2003, 2004 or 2005 (and met prior minimum retention rules for carryover) would have until 12/31/07 to pass remaining parts.

** I took the exam in 2004 - did not take the unpassed parts in 2005. Do you think I could take those parts ( Part 2 and 3 now combine into one part) in 2006 ? I was thinking that since I only do individuals, I would have 2 years to pass the business sections (2006 and 2007 giving me more time to master this section) Do you know if my thinking is correct?

I don’t really know the answer to your question. But my advice would be to plan on passing all parts of the exam in one year. Trying to pass one part one year and another part the next is dragging misery to the “Nth” degree. You can’t pass the exam on experience. You have to study for the exam. So why not set your goal this summer to study to pass all parts of the exam, and just do it. I passed it all in one year by taking practice tests of the previous year’s exam. Then I would look up the answers and figure out why an answer was wrong – study it – then try again, until I could get all answers correct. Even though it is a new test program this year, I would think many of the questions will be very similar to the previous year’s exam. So concentrate on learning to get all of the answers correct on the previous year exam, and then you have a pretty good shot at getting a good score on the current year test.
