1095-A Questions

I've just started getting in a steady flow of clients this week. Have the 1095-A's already been mailed out? If I understand correctly this is from the Marketplace not the insurance companies correct?

If they have not received it yet, can they log into the Marketplace to get it?

Just making sure I understand the above because I've had two tell me they had it through the marketplace but had not received the 1095-A.

All 1095-As were legally supposed to be mailed by February 2nd, and come directly from the Marketplace. It may take a few days yet to receive them.

Some Marketplaces have it available online, but I don't think they all do.

Some people may have gone to the Marketplace to get insurance, but their income qualified them for Medicaid. The website still may take their information and forward it to the Medicaid office, but Medicaid is NOT considered Marketplace insurance, and Medicaid recipients will NOT get a 1095-A. However, the taxpayer will tell you they 'got insurance at the Marketplace', so if they don't have a 1095-A you need to determine if they have Medicaid or if they actually have a Marketplace insurance policy.

Bill's exactly right.

I've had about five so far -- two brought in their 1095-A forms this week (first I've seen) while three are still waiting. Yesterday I asked a client if he was "on Obamacare" last year and he says "yes." Told that I need to copy the medical ID, he promptly pulls out a Medicaid card.

So anyway, I'm calling those "on hold" tomorrow and making sure they are not on Medicaid.

For clients from CA the form is now available on the Covered CA website - however the client will need to login to retrieve it.
