Because I'm desperate and I can't

Gas prices -- No price caps during hurricane / Long-term solution--pulled 3-day supply from Strategic Oil Reserve / Slowed consumption by instructing all federal employees to conserve gas. (Doesn't look like it's going back below $2--you wonder "how much is enough for those guys (Exxon)" and their answer seems to be "there's no limit--we don't care if you starve."
Drug prices -- Canadian purchases (60% savings) illegal / Passed token Medicaid bill (15% savings--competitive Medicaid bidding specifically prohibited).
Dubai ports sale deal -- Talk about political suicide and no-brainers (who are his advisors?). Hmm, let's see now; do I want a terrorist-sponsoring Islamic state in charge of our docks? Gosh, that's a tough one.
The proposed sale of IRS's database to telemarketers -- This bill was entitled "The Taxpayer Information Protection Act" or something like that. Gimme a break! Sounds like "The People's Democratic Republic of China." (I'm not sure they wouldn't sell the Statue of Liberty if they could get a good price).
Declining poll numbers -- Laura: "I don't believe them." Cheney: "We consider them background noise." (Yes, it is--it's the roar of the mob storming the palace gate.
I voted for Mr. Bush, thought him a good and decent man, and supported the war (still do), but now I'm wondering if he and and his party aren't so blantantly intent on short-term capital gains (pun intended) that they'll bankrupt the country if they're re-elected.
I like McCain a lot--if you listen to him on C-Span, he comes off as an honest guy (now there's an endangered species). But...he's a Republican and, in the end, he has to go with the party. And, she reminds me of Bill; convictions are mobile--they go whichever way the political wind is blowing (outraged/flabbergasted liberals are gettin' a dose of that right now) which is why she's currently buddying up to conservatives and some of their more "moderate/sensible" positions--picking up red votes in flyover-land.
So! What's the lesser of the two evils?

I think we need to go ahead and come to the realization that there will be a woman nominated, and elected in 2008. Our (Republicans) only hope is to put one up who holds at least some conservative principles, lest we be stuck with 8 more years of "it depends on your definition of what is is".

Hillary
Hillary would do the same things Bill did. Have sex with a woman in the White House and sell us out to the Chinese. The best democrat out there is Joe Lieberman. At least you can trust him to a point and most of the time he makes sense. I am a republican and I apologize for some of the things "W" has done, but I am sure Gore would have had us in worse shape than we are right now. My humble opinion.

It takes a big person to make such comments as unregistered
The man can't win for losing. You folks complain that we're fighting an unjustified war, but you want to make snide comments about the man composing himself instead of running out and blaming the attack on "global warming" (because according to Gore this is the cause for everything from Katrina to his loss in 2000 to JFK's assasination).

Moderately Liberal Conservative
Supported W, both times. Lesser of 2 evils (or duds).
Felt safer on 9/11 with him versus Gore or Kerry.
However, stupid is as stupid does. I really am disappointed in his failure to take the bull by the horns or some other part of the anatomy on various issues.
However, someplace will have to freeze over before I vote of Hillary!
Same applies to Republican senators and congressmen. Wish there were term limits on all federal elected officials. My church has term limits for council members, our city council has term limits for those on boards (but not themselves!); good enough for them, good enough for congress.
Really disappointed in Republicans, including our governor, Rick Perry! He raised the state franchise tax on corporations. I have one client seeing an increase from $2,000 to $20,000 next year and this corporation only made $8,000 last year!Jiggers, EA

Hey Brad - this nonsense (no matter anyone's political leanings) does NOT belong on a tax message board.

why doesn't this belong on a tax board?
Who makes fiscal policy? Last time I checked it was the legislative and executive branches responsibility. Therefore, a discussion of the future members of these branches is a very relative topic. Respectfully, if you don't agree with the topic, avoid the discussion.
I'm in the same boat with Jiggers (voted for W both times, disappointed in some of his decisions). We have to remember, we "hired" these folks, and we have the authority and ability to "fire" them. The sad part is that the majority of those who do vote (which is a miniscule number anyway) don't understand the ramifications of their choices. I do see this more on the left, as they have built up a base of entitlement loving constituents whom they must keep happy.

Why not on this message board?
I would like to see what my fellow tax preparers think. For either party. And I am open to comments for and against. How are we to learn about what is going on if we are restricted to the biased media?
I do not pull one lever. I vote for the issue and the person. Here in Taxus (not mispelled), give me a good Democrat or Independent and I will vote for that person against our current Republican Governor.
I want to review all issues before I vote for or to vote to remove someone from office.Jiggers, EA

I agree with your overall philosophy/stance (Josh/Jiggers/gt/dts) -- I just don't know what to do about it. I'm thinking...maybe go with the most honest candidate--at least he/she will try to do the right thing, whatever that might be.
P.S. Note to UR: Quite right, my man--it's absolute nonsense. However, I've been given tacit permission (my posts haven't been deleted) to post such claptrap on weekends. I assure you that weekday postings adhere strictly to the highest standards of financial chit-chat. The fruit of our tax looms boasts nothing less than some of the most remarkably mind-numbing mumbo-jumbo anywhere outside of a George Will column

I voted for George twice and he was the only choice we had. However there is no way he is conservative when it comes to government. Drug benefits for a welfare system for crybaby senior citizens. Money for the crybaby education system. More government jobs for the crybabies that think only they can protect us in the airports. Gee they did such a great job on 9-11. The one thing the government should do is protect this country and they won't stop the invasion because the crybabies don't believe in borders.Last edited by veritas; 06-05-2006, 07:31 PM.
