    Ca sales tax

I have a client who is a full yr Ca resident. He has charge card records of all purchases and wants to claim the sales taxes paid. His income is largely not taxable so he pays very little in state taxes. He wants to deduct sales taxes on furniture purchases (no problem),
car repair (in my state the tax is only on parts not labor, how is it figured in Ca?
gas for his car? You can't take any of these can you?

    He can use receipts

He can use receipts for actual sales tax instead of the standard rate. California sales tax is mostly assessed on goods, but a few services are getting pulled in too and some businesses that have crossed the State Board of Equalization don't bother to separate them any more. I'm not sure about gasoline since sales tax is not itemized on the receipt, but this is not something the tax preparer needs to audit if the taxpayer has already added them up.
