    Applying for Exemption from the Health Coverage Payment?

    I understand that one needs to apply and receive an exemption (if it applies) before the return can be filed. I can't imagine preparing the extension request, receiving some kind of approval, and filing the return by April 15th. August 15th, maybe!

      When you should apply

      Depends on the type of exemption you qualify for:

      Exemptions from the fee for not having coverage
      https://www.healthcare.gov/exemptions/
      If you don't have health coverage, you may have to pay a fee. You can get an exemption in certain cases. You no longer pay a tax penalty for not having health coverage. If you don’t have health coverage, you don’t need an exemption to avoid paying a tax penalty.


      Some are granted at time of filing and some require prior approval.

      Bill accordingly.
