If the client receives a 1098T from an educational institution does this mean that the institution is a ELIGIBLE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION. If not how do you find out if the institution is eligible. Thanks for any response.
The best way is for the student to ask the Educational Institution.
An "Eligible Educational Intuition" is usually required to file a 1098-T, while a non-eligible educational institution is NOT required to file one. Therefore, I really doubt if a non-eligible institution would file a 1098-T.
Of of the requirements for a qualifying educational institution is that it must be "eligible to participate in the Department of Education's student aid programs". I check the FAFSA site, and if it is NOT on the website, I know that it is NOT an eligible institution.
