    Form 990 extensions

I was looking at my kids Charter school form 990. The Charter schools fiscal year is 7/1/11 thru 6/30/12. The Schools 2011 return was filed on 5/9/2013. Its my understanding that the max extensions a form 990 filer can have is 6 months, correct?

Yes, a form 990 can be timely filed as much as six months after the original due date. The original due date of the return for the year ending 6/30/12 was 11/15/12. First extension request would give them until 2/15/13. Second extension request (if granted) would give them until 5/15/13.

If they filed the return for the year ending in 2011 on 5/9/2013, well, yeah, it was late.
If you loan someone $20 and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
