    Depreciating Foreign Asset

    A few years ago, I learned on this Board, that residential real estate in a foreign country is depreciated over 40 years. What is the depreciation life for 5 yr property in foreign residential realty, like an appliance?

    Under IRC section 168(g)(1)(A), “any tangible property which during the taxable year is used predominantly outside the United States” must use the alternative depreciation system. -


    Looks like appliances would be 9 years--TTB page 7-1
