GVWR vs. GVW for Section 179

For Section 179, is it Gross Vehicle Weight Rating OR Gross Vehicle Weight OR are these one of the same?

TP purchased brand new van in 2013 used 100% for Bus. Upon reading left bottom of TTB pg 10-7, I am reading if the van if over 6000 lbs loaded gross vehicle weight which upon a brief Googling, GVWR is the same as loaded gross vehicle weight then the van is not subject to the section 280F depreciation limits.

TP emailed me late Wed night telling me his brand new van has a 5995 GVWR. Wow, 5 lbs away from qualifying for section 179.

GVW is what the vehicle weighs. GVWR is the maximum load including the GVW (the weight of the vehicle plus cargo - which by the the way includes people). Trucks and vans use GVWR.

    Loaded GVW = GVWR
