    Simple ira

A sole proprietor offers SIMPLE IRA to his employees. One of his employees is his wife. She contributed $1000 to her SIMPLE IRA through payroll deductions. Can she make any additional deductible contributions to her SIMPLE IRA directly or do the contributions all have to be made through payroll deductions?

For a SIMPLE plan, the elective deferrals made by an employee must be deducted from compensation. The employer matches. I cannot find anything which allows the employee to make other deposits into the plan.
