    Just Thinking

As a seaonal employee, I am now back on retirement. However, my mind keeps going, and I have a question, not related to any return i have ever done.

If a salesman drives a car that advertises his business on his car, what portion of the cost of his car could be taken as advertising on Schedule C or 2441. I saw a beautifully desinged car today that was full of advertising. Also, here in Phoenix we have a termite and pest company called Truly. Each one of their sales people drives a yellow volkswagon painted likew a mouse (it even has an antenna-like tail).

Just curious how you all would handle the car vis-a-vis advertising.

The deduction is based on business mileage, advertising on the car doesn't make it business use, according to Pub 463:

"ADVERTISING DISPLAY ON CAR. Putting display material that advertises
your business on your car does not change the use of your car from
personal use to business use. If you use this car for commuting or other
personal uses, you still cannot deduct your expenses for those uses."

      Car advertising

He can deduct the cost of the decals as advertising expense, too.
