    Request for Prompt Assessment

When a Request for Prompt Assessment is filed, does the IRS notify the fiduciary of the assessment being completed? I know the SOL is reduced to 18 months. Does anyone know the nuts and bolts of what actually happens? My fiduciary client wants a prompt assessment so she can close an estate quickly. I'm thinking the IRS does not act so quickly---.

I did one years ago on an Estate Tax Return 706, and we never heard a peep from them. Is that the return you are speaking of? I never heard of doing it on a 1041.
