Does anyone here wear a tie?

I broke out my assortment on March 1st; that's when my serious, heavy-duty fees start coming in. They're more of a white-collarish crowd and my theory is that it appeals to their sense that a professional should appear more, well, professional.

I know Josh in NC agrees with me, but am curious about the rest. If you think it's all hogwash, then feel free to "unfriend" me. I promise not to be offended 'cause years in this biz have worn callouses on my once-sensitive soul.

    Bart,

I used to everyday when I had my office, but since working at home, no. Sure beats the jeans and sweat hoody I wear now.

      Casual and barefoot

As long as I'm more "dressed up" than my clients, I'm good. They wear stretchy clothes . . I'm usually in what we call casual/comfy. And that includes being barefoot.

        A tie?

I am in Hawaii. I do not own a tie. I have not worn shoes in over a year. An aloha shirt and clean trousers easily outclasses most of my higher end clients. Most of my clients are in t-shirts and shorts for their office appointment.

Jeans everyday for 10 years - Never had anyone complain, and I guess if they did there are a lot of tax preparers that will dress up for them. Life is too short not to be comfortable and especially when working 70 hour weeks.

I don't mean that to sound disrespectful to anyone. I worked in a suit and tie firm for 12 years out of college. When I went on my own I started wearing jeans, and no one cared.

          Even wear shorts on Fridays.

From 1990-2000 I wore a suit and tie every day.
From 2001-2008 I wore more casual dress pants, shirt and tie every day. Had multiple sport coats hanging in office for when visiting clients or they visited me.
From 2009-now - khaki's, dress shirt but no tie. Wear Merrill's or Keens to work every day now. Shoes are the biggest determining factor in my comfort.

I'm more comfortable in khaki's than jeans so there is that.

Working Saturday I'm in khaki's, grey t-shirt and sweater vest with Keen sandals. ULTRA comfort to me if I'm not wearing shorts.

Only wear a tie during one or two nights formal dining on cruise ship.
Plan to wear a tie at my funeral, however.

I walked out of the big CPA firm where I did my apprenticeship back in 1986. I swore that I would never ever never ever wear a wool suit again. And I haven't. Got rid of the pantyhose not too long after that.

Guys -- with your ties -- I don't understand why you wear them. You look just fine to me without them!

It's fashion fashion fashion. And, respect in somber and formal occasions. Or it could be a power tie to command a higher fee---. For me; no tie with tax prep--

Croatian soldiers who fought as mercenaries for France in 1667 wore cravats, which means "necktie" in English, as part of their uniform. As they were recruited into the French army when the French declared war on Spain, the Croatian ties were noticed and accepted by the fashionable French. The turned-down shirt collar replaced the banned ruffs, and the fine cloths to wrap the collar became the rage. Croatia was unable to recover after the war, but sympathizer King Louis XIV accepted the cravat and started a new trend.

If a client walked into my office and saw me wearing a tie, they would likely ask, in order:

                      1) Applying for a loan today?
                      2) Going to a funeral?
                      3) Why did John never tell me he had a twin?

Uncle the question for you would be do you tuck in your aloha shirt....tuck in=formal (tie), out= casual (no tie).
For me it's tank top bermuda shorts and slippah

                          Tie wearing

Tried wearing a tie once and didn't make me any smarter........don't need to impress people anymore.

I have high standards. I'm tucked in, no tie. My toes are twisted, so slippah no fit. I use sandals.

At the Block office I started in, men were required to wear a dress shirt and tie and slacks to work. There must have been a reason we were required to dress this way.

There is a minister I like to watch every Sunday that says, "Look your best, do your best and be your best" and I repeat those words to myself every morning, without a tie of course!
