I have a married couple who each filed as single for 2013. The wife has received a refund. The husband has been told by the IRS that his return is "re-flagged" due to filing status. The couple wants to amended their returns and file as married filing jointly. Do I need to file a separate amended return for each person?

Only one 1040X
I am suspecting the IRS knows they are married, and since they filed as single instead of MFS, they caught it.
Only file one 1040X using column A as the principle taxpayer, then make the corrections by adding the second taxpayers income. Add a copy of the corrected MFJ as a worksheet and note the reason for the amendment. I would send a copy of the letter the taxpayer received as well.
Sending two amended returns would only complicate things.
