Have prepared taxes for married couple for years, who are now involved in a bitter divorce. Daughter in College. MFJ gives a $7,000 federal refund. MFS gives Husband a $3,500 refund and Wife a balance due of $1,700. MFS does not allow for an education credit (worth $2,500 if MFJ. Due to bitterness, Husband wants to file MFS. If he wants MFS and she wants MFJ, what are my obligations ? Fully aware that if one files MFS then the spouse has to file MFS. Help. Thanks,

I would try to convince the H to file mfj. Then split the refund proportionally.

Under the circumstances, particularly the word "bitter", I'd send them each to two different preparers. There's too much conflict of interest risk here.
