    How would you present it

New 2013 client brought 2013 supporting info to do 2013 returns and also brought prior year 2012 return for a review.

After review, it was noticed that one of the American Opportunity Credit questions "... was the student ever convicted ..." and saw that it was inadvertently marked "yes" therefore making it not eligible for the credit.

Offered to do the amended return for a slight fee.

How would you present it and would you do the amended return ?

    Thanks in advance

Did you ask if the student had a conviction? I would just say I identified a possible error and would like to clarify. Ask the question and if no, then offer to do the amended return.
In other words, a democratic government is the only one in which those who vote for a tax can escape the obligation to pay it.
