    medical equipment depreciation

Looking in the tax book for recovery period for medical equipment, cant find anything unless I am missing it. I am thinking it is 7 year and 5 year for high tech.

Are you talking about a medical practice deducting the cost of medical equipment? Or are you talking about depreciating medical equipment by an individual as medical costs?

The cost of medical equipment for an individual needing medical care is not depreciable. Depreciation is only allowed for a trade or business or income producing activity. Capital equipment used to treat a medical condition is deductible in full in the year paid, regardless of when medical services are provided.

If you are talking about depreciating medical equipment used in a medical practice, it is no different than any other equipment used in a trade or business. Computer related stuff is 5 years and all other equipment is 7 years.
