High schooler taking college credits and paying tuition, does that qualify for any credits of deductions? I know this has been debated before, but i can't remember what the decision was.

Sorry, none of these are available to high-schoolers taking dual enrollment classes. According to the Dept of Education, this is because the student is not enrolled in a degree program even though they may receive some future credit for the courses. They have to be attending the qualified secondary institution to be eligible. See Pub 970, page 20. "The course must be either part of a post-secondary degree program, or taken by the student to acquire or improve job skills." For the Tuition Deduction, the person has to have a high school diploma or GED.Last edited by Burke; 03-02-2014, 11:37 AM.
