Online Backup

Ok, I'm looking at online backups again since Intuit is no longer including online backup with my ProAdvisor membership. I looked at Carbonite, and they have online backup for whole PC and mirror image----I'm thinking that means I wouldn't have to reinstall software???? My question is, Carbonite is cloud based and I'm wondering if there are security/ethical issues with that. It says it's encrypted and secure, but Intuit says they have bank level security and encryption, but I don't think that's a mirror image for the same price. Opinions?

First (July of 2012) my harddrive went out. 2nd (Jan 2014), my USB ports stop working and some other weird things was going on with my laptop for which I had to restore to factor setting. In both cases I had to reinstall my apps from my DVD's. I believe I get a credit if I refer you so if you plan on buying, let me know and I will refer you prior to you purchasing. : )

I used the Carbonite server version for several months. It turned out to take down my cloud server (an IBM facility in Texas and Seattle) every few days. The cloud technicians finally traced the problem to Carbonite. I switched to iBackup (a quarter the price) and have had good success since. Both of these programs run real-time backups.

I've used Carbonite as an online backup for more than three years. When my hard drives have crashed (it's inevitable) I've found Carbonite tech support very helpful and all my data was there. They do encrypt. But I also have my hard drive encrypted so you should be covered by doing that.

Unless you pay extra for the total mirroring all you get is a backup of the folder structures and data including images.

As an additional backup protocol I use two external hard drives: Seagate 500GB portable using a scheduled backup with FBackup 4 (a freeware download) and a Western Digital My Passport. As much as I like the cloud's convenience, I think it prudent to have a local physical backup.
