    Property Taxes on NJ-1040

Taxpayers' home has more than one unit. It is a legal two family home. However, they no longer have any tenants in the second unit and instead have been occupying the entire house themselves for the past couple of years as their principal place of residence. All of the property taxes have been paid by the taxpayers. Would all of these property taxes then be able to be entered onto the NJ-1040 line for Total Property Taxes Paid for this past tax year?

    I wouldn't think so

If the second unit has a separate entrance, separate address, property tax address with the municipality, etc., then i don' think you can have two locations as a primary residence which is what is reported on NJ-1040.

NJ 1040 instructions may address your specific issue

      for a start - reference - NJ 1040 instructions Line 37a - Total Property
      Taxes Paid

see if that addresses your specific issue and/or there may be more reference on the web-site
