Are Diabetic Shoes & Socks medical deduction

Are Diabetic Shoes & Socks medical deduction? Cannot seem to locate them on the list on pages 4-3 & 4-4 of the TTB.

My podiatrist says Medicare pays for one pair of diabetic shoes per year, so that's probably safe as long as not excessive amounts.

I have one fellow that needs that and his doc has recommended that. I saw his diagnosis chart. We deduct 1 pair of shoes and socks each year. His monthly prescription bill is around $300!

1 pair of socks per year? WHAT??

If you have Neuropathy or related condition with your feet I cannot and will not believe that you can only deduct 1 pair of socks per year.
As for the shoes - Same thing. As a chronic sufferer from Neuropathy in my feet (vitamin B deficiency and Diabetes) the only thing that would be required is a letter of medical necessity - That should cover. If you do not comply with the Dr your condition could worsen and cause much higher medical deductions. Now I'm not saying you should buy 1 pair of shoes for each day of the week... but I think even 10 pairs of socks and 3 pairs of shoes is NOT unheard of. I mean you're talking like $300 for shoes and $50 for socks. that's not putting you close to the 1% never mind the 10%.

I'd give up $500,000 in deductions to get rid of my neuropathy!

PS - Your spell checker is annoying me.. I spelled Neuropathy correctly and it says it's not!!

The key words are MEDICALLY NECESSARY and a DR. writing a prescription or letter for them. Good luck on the 10% this year!
        what a joke!

          Agree

I agree with MAJ. What Medicare pays has nothing to do with what is allowed as tax deduction. I am not sure if a doctor's letter is required if you have an obvious condition. Since my accident I need special inserts in my shoes and shoes where these inserts fit in. Nobody would spend these $$ for unnecessary shoes, inserts and socks.
