How do you handle the requirement of providing spouse ss# on a MFS return if the couple is seperated, divorce pending and totally incommunicado?

Haven't filed since separation. It is a 3 year job.

You client has to get the information from his attorney who will have to contact her attorney.

That is what he is paying his attorney for.

You are allowed to put "Unable" in the space for the spouse's SS#. We file them frequently in here that way. It will have to be mailed. It cannot efile.

No SSN

Last year, I was able to efile a MFS federal return without the spouses SSN, but the state (Indiana) had to be paper filed.
