    Start Up Expenses

    T/p has a full time occupation - W-2 form

Looking at a part time (unrelated to full time) for extra $$ - which requires a "certification"

T/P will receive and be considered as an independent contractor on a 1099 MISC reporting on a Schedule C - Maybe in the range of $ 3,000 per year - not much in expenses (no not a multi-level - home party biz)

Question - could the 1st year certification expense be allocated to a start up expense?

    Thanks

    Sandy

    Start Up Costs

Reference: TTB 8-17. Based on that and IRS Publication 535, along with IRC Sec. 195, certification expenses are not a start up cost but likely deductibe elsewhere on the return (license fees for example).
Friends double; family triple. Don't buy an audit for yourself. If someone has to go to jail make sure it is the client. Remember it is only taxes, nothing important.
