    Divorce agreement

Client was told to leave by spouse. Starting in Jan 2013 - June 13, he continued to pay the rent for his soon to be ex-wife and 4 kids. In May 2013, the court document established starting in July 2013 what his payments for spousal support and child support were going to be each month.

Can he do anything with the 6 months rent that he paid before the court agreement was reached? I'm thinking NO! However, I'm jsut want to be sure if someone else had similar circumstances and what they did.

    Thanks,

Without a court order, it's not deductible.

If his name is on the lease/rental agreement he may be able to take a rental credit if his state has one.
Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.
