Amending Old Returns for ITIN Taxpayer Who Finally Gets SSA

I'm hearing that a client who did his 2012 return with an ITIN (his wife had an SSN on their joint return) can now amend that 2012 return with his new SSN so that they met get the EIC that they could not get with just an ITIN. Anybody familiar with this?

I have seen advertisements offering amendments to recover lost EITC!
