    NT - "Giveaway" Card??

Received today a card from "United States Prescription Discounts." It has an official govt-looking "Form 1213" at the top left. It entitles me to receive discounts at thousands of various drug stores and dept stores which have pharmacies.

The cover letter finally admits in its final paragraph "The United States Prescription Discounts card is not insurance nor is it affiliated with any government agency." It has as its function to furnish discounts to all cardholders, and boasts there are 4.5 cardholders already.

Simply present this to your pharmacy and receive up to 50% discount.

Too good to be true? It does not state how it makes money, but says it is issued in alliance with Catamaran, described as an "independent company." I am already "pre-approved" with no activation requirements. Nowhere does the letter describe any "downside" to its use.

Anyone else familiar with this? Is this a scam?

CVS pharmacies also have discount cards. Google independent reviews for the card.
Drugs are so overpriced that a discount is a good thing to have. I don't see any tax consequences as you are paying the full discounted price and that is the amount that you would claim as an Rx deduction on your taxes. It is not a gift, it is a "discounted price"
Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.
