    INTUIT Part Time opportunities

    I just received an email about Intuit offering part time tax help. Has anyone done this before, or know of anyone who has done this. I would appreciate any input anyone has.

      I have worked for Intuit the last two tax seasons

      and am returning for a third season beginning next month.

      I work in a FT capacity but it is my understanding that there are also PT opportunities. I enjoy the work and because it is remote you can do it from your home or office.

        just to get used to researching tax law, etc. Josh, do they expect answers immediately or do they give you some leeway due to the busy times of the tax season? I'm just wondering if I am swamped with tax returns and Intuit needs an answer in 1 business day, then maybe I can't devote the time. Thanks for any reply.

          Do you work with emails, chat, phone? Can you pick only certain kind of returns to answer?

              You're working on Intuit's time when you're on the clock and are taking inbound phone calls or chats. The customer is on the phone or chat with you in real time and needs an answer right then and there. Some contacts take 2 minutes, some can take 2 or more hours. There is a process for doing escalations which require a return call to the customer but those are not the norm.

              You are an Intuit employee, not a contractor, and are expected to only be doing Intuit business while on the clock.

                Could be a phone call, could be a chat. only those agents "skilled" for biz returns get those questions through a separate queue (1065's, 1120's, fiduciary returns).

                  I have a couple of questions:

                  In the original post in 2011, I believe you said you trained for 12 days from 8 am to 5 pm. Was this a time they set for you to train or can you train at any time?

                  Was you able to set your own hours during the tax season? For me I would prefer to work for them in the afternoon/evening hours.

                      Intuit does this to have tax professionals answer questions from their Turbo Tax users. Since I already use their Lacerte product with a hefty price, I view this as direct competition to my practice. I am not interested in providing guidance to Turbo Tax users. Just something to consider.

                        So you financially support Intuit by paying them money for their products but you refuse to support them in a manor which allows them to pay YOU?


                        I'm your competition, is there anything you'd like from me which would allow you to fund my operations? I'm very willing to charge a hefty price for whatever it is you are buying from me.

                          Competition? Really!!

                          Good grief Roberts...I guess if you want to stretch your imagination far enough, you might be MY competition as well.

                          I don't really like TurboTax, either, for the same reason as Y2K. They intend to run us sole practitioners out of business - not necessarily with results, but with advertising. Especially the one where they imply just buy the software and you will be just like a CPA.

                          After going to seminars 4 days a year, cost of professional organizations & subscriptions, etc. they want people to believe just buy their product, and [poof!] out comes a tax return. We all go behind TT every year for returns and deal with the carnage. Not because TT is mechanically deficient but because no software sophistication can compensate for the users' lack of knowledge.

                          I'm assuming anyone who buys TaxPro or LaCerte does so because they have evaluated the software and how it fits their needs -- not because they have blacklisted Intuit. If anyone wants to work on the telephone for TurboTax, that should be their decision.

                            JMHO but I sell a service. Turbo Tax sells tax returns to do-it-yourself types. If someone doesn't want to use my service, I'm thrilled if they then use Turbo Tax for one reason - Turbo Tax isn't my competition. The CPA down the street is who I'm worried they'll use and if they use her, I've lost.

                            I also own an investment firm and I provide a service to clients. A lot of people think Vanguard or Scottrade are my competition, they most certainly are not my competition.

                              Well, I applied for the part time job with Intuit. I need the extra income as I've had several clients close down their businesses and bookkeeping went with them.

                              I do not really consider turbo tax competition anymore. I feel like that is a totally different crowd of people. They may come to me one year, do turbo tax the next, then head over to block. My clients have more complex returns and if TT crowd wants to come to me that is fine. If I can help answer their questions while getting paid by Intuit... that is good too
